HEART
Waldo Canyon Fire Memorial
Mountain Shadows Park
Colorado Springs, Colorado
Between June 23, 2012 and July 10, 2012 the Waldo Canyon Fire in Colorado burned 18,247 acres in the Pike National Forest and in Colorado Springs leaving two people dead and destroying some 346 homes.
"Heart" is a memorial commemorating that loss and honoring the community's strength for rising to the challenge of rebuilding and healing in its aftermath. Heart and the Memorial Plaza in Mountain Shadows Park represent a foundation of hope, of neighbors helping neighbors, of losses turned into new beginnings and of strong hearts working together to rebuild.
